President Maithripala Sirisena, in his message to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, emphasises upon the need to integrate with nature in the New Year. He notes, the current “market mechanism” has become a slave to “consumerism”. The President points out, this national event we are celebrating is an inter-cultural festival, and it is necessary to understand the deep meaning of it. He notes, distancing ourselves from nature, brings about many catastrophes.

Issuing a message to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says, one needs to discern the deep meanings behind the significance of the rituals, and magnify humane values. For this, all cultures need to come together.

Minister of Cultural Affairs: Sajith Premadasa, issuing a message said, this year, all should determine to bring about a “merit-filled land”, complete with “merit-filled citizens”. He advises, the charm and splendour that begins in the home, needs to flow out reaching the entire population.
