The National Water Board assures of an uninterrupted supply irrespective of the prevailing dry weather in most districts. Its Chairman A. Anzar says consumption in Colombo and suburbs has come down as some residents have gone to visit their relatives in the outstations for the New Year. He requests consumers not to drink the water being distributed by the Kethhena purification plant as the Kalu Ganga still remains salinated.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation says there will be no shortage of fuel during the festive season. Its distribution manager W.M.T.W.A. Bandara says adequate supplies have been distributed islandwide. Corporation employees have been allowed leave only yesterday and distribution resumes today.
