President Maithripala Sirisena has given instructions to the security forces to take forward continuously, the operations to uproot terrorism from the country.
The National Security Council convened under the patronage of the President, yesterday. At the meeting it was revealed, a number of individuals and explosives have been taken into custody. At the discussion it was decided to postpone the recommencement of schools and universities until the 6th of next month. Given the present situation, the National Security Council called for May Day Celebrations not to be held this year.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education will launch a special operation together with Police and the tri forces to secure the premises of schools across the island. Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has held discussion with the security heads in this regard. It has been observed, certain teacher association are attempting to mislead the public in this respect. The Minister noted, more than trade unions, it is the government and the security units that have the responsibility to ensure the security of school children. Therefore, the Ministry of Education has not resorted to burden the responsibility of school security on school principals and the tutorial staff.
