Issuing a special statement in parliament yesterday Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe said that security authorities have been able to improve the security situation at present. All those who are connected to the attacks have been brought before the law. Investigations are being conducted about the people they associated closely. The prime minister said that schools are functioning without any obstacles. The prime minister said there were certain intelligence information about the persons who went to Syria in 2014 and joined IS They have gone to Syria through Turkey.
The Sri Lankans Mohammed Usain Mohammed Ameen and Mohammed Swair Mohammed Arooz have gone to Syria and joined the IS. There are no reports of individuals who have gone and trained in the use of fire arms at IS camps in Iraq or Afghanistan after the IS leader declared a caliphate. Mohammed Ibrahim Saadith Abdul Haq who was in the custody of Crimes Investigation Division has gone t Syria in 2014 and undergone weapons training and returned to the country.Abdul Latiff Mohammed Jameel who went to Syria in 2014 to join the IS has returned to the country after going to Turkey. Mohammed Muhuseen Sapraz Neelam is the 1st Sri Lankan to die after joining the IS. When he was going to Syria through Turkey on 15th January 2015 his parents had accompanied him.
However his parents have returned to the country on 29th January 2016. The Prime Minister said that intelligence officials are conducting investigations about the activities of the parents and the people they are associating with.
A programme is now underway to pay compensation for the next of Kin of those who died and became totally disabled due to the attacks. Compensation has been paid on behalf of 100 who died and 45 who were injured in terrorist attacks at Katuwapitiya, Batticalaoa and Kotchichikade
