The Prime Minister emphasizes that extremism should not be allowed to destroy Sri Lankan identity in all local religions

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says all steps should be taken to protect the Sri Lankan identity in the religions in the country without allowing it to be destroyed by extremism.

The Prime Minister said this in a statement to media at Manikhinna Sri Vidyasagara Maha Pirivena after visiting the Maha Nayakes of Malwathu, Asgiri and Ramagngna Nikayas.

The Prime Minister said that it was possible to protect peace due to the steps taken by them after he made a request for them to come forward to protect peace in the country following Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

The Prime Minister thanked the Maha Sangha, Most venerable Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thera and Most Venerable Ittepane Dhammalankara Thera.

The prime Minister said that he briefed the Maha Sangha on the steps taken to normalize the situation in the country, laws prepared by the Muslim religious affairs department and about the discussions held with Islam and Christian clergy. The Prime Minister has also held discussions on conducting the Wesak Festival.

The Prime Minister pointed out it is suitable to conduct religious activities at temples giving priority to spiritual practices.

The Prime Minister has called over on the Maha Nayake of Malwathu Chapetr Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera, the Maha nayake of Asgiri Chapter Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera and The Maha Nayake of Ramagngna Nikaya Most Venerable Napana Pemasiri Thera.
