President Maithripala Sirisena says that the statements made by certain people with political aims have become obstructions to the process of building the nation while freeing the country from terrorism.
It is the responsibility of all citizens to build a peaceful society for all the people in the country. The President said this during a meeting with Muslim civil society representatives including the All Ceylon Jamiyathul Ulama Association.
The president pointed out that no one should be made to feel uncomfortable in a multi-religious country. He emphasized that everyone should understand the situation of the country when expressing views.
Muslim civil society representatives said that the Muslim society totally condemned extremism and terrorism.
They said that by identifying barbaric terrorist groups as Muslim terrorists, the entire Muslim community faced hardships. They pointed out to the President that strict action should be taken against terrorism.
