74 suspects have been taken into custody following the unrest in the north central province

Police media spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera says that 74 suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the atrocities in the north western province. A breaching the police curfew 33 suspects were produced before the Minuwangoda, Kuliyapitiya, and Hettipola courts and remanded until the 24th of this month.

Several police teams have been deployed to investigate into the unfortunate incident. Two DIGs and 8 SPs and ASPs have been included in these teams. The STF and the three armed forces have taken maximum measures to maintain law and order throughout the country.

Police media spokesman request the public to extend their support to the security forces to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, special investigation unit has been set up in order to scrutinize social media networks whether they spread hate speeches and false information.
