Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says that the police and the tri forces have been granted with all powers required to consolidate peace and security in the country.
These measures have been taken following a discussion with the IGP and commanders of tri forces at a cabinet meeting held last night to disperse the tense situation emerged in several areas. The prime minister today made an observation tour in Kuliyapitiya, Hettipola and Paduwasnuwara to take stock the present situation in that areas.
He first arrived in the Mosque in Hettipola and later toured Kuliyapitiya and Paduwasnuwara area. There was a discussion between the Maha Sangha, politicians, members of Security forces and local representatives on continuation of normal activities while preserving peace in the area.
Addressing the media near the office of Superintendent of police, at Kuliyapitiya .The prime minister said that mobs cannot be allowed to cripple the wesak celebrations.
He promised to make arrangements to celebrate wesak peacefully, while providing police protection for the areas if required. The Prime Minister also said that necessary decisions will be arrived at the cabinet meetings to grant relief to the families in these areas affected by the incidents.
