Speaker Karu Jayasooriya says the efforts taken by certain elements to destabilize the country should be defeated. The Speaker emphasized the importance of all common masses joining together shredding the political differences at this juncture. The people should extend their support to defeat the terrorism and radical fundamentalism from the country. The Speaker also said the President, the Prime Minister and Opposition leader have greater responsibilities in peace and reconciliation in the country. The speaker made these remarks after meeting the Asgiri Mahanayaka. Acting Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardena also accompanied this occasion. The speaker further said a special parliament select committee will be appointed to investigate and probe the recent racial violence incidents.
The speaker also said that he will request the president to appoint a presidential commission to investigate these incidents.
