Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana has expressed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for US support in the wake of the Easter Sunday attacks, and the continuing support for Sri Lanka in its fight against terrorism. Minister Marapana met with Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo during his two-day visit to Washington. On behalf of the Sri Lankan Government, he expressed condolences on the death of five US citizens from the terror attacks.
Minister Marapana and Secretary Pompeo welcomed the approval of a 480 million dollar Millennium Challenge Compact, which would support economic development in Sri Lanka. They also discussed the US–Sri Lanka relationship and future cooperation. During the visit, Minister Marapana also met with US National Security Advisor John Bolton.
