The President leads the nation in paying tributes to the war heroes

He says that the country is well capable of countering international terrorism.

President Maithripala Sirisena led the nation in paying tributes to the war heroes who laid down their lives for the country. The commemoration took place in front of the war heroes’ memorial at parliament grounds at Battaramulla this afternoon. Speaking on the occasion, President Sirisena said that war heroes and the national intelligence were capable of eliminating international terrorism from the country. He said that with 30 years of experience in countering terrorism, they had the ability to face any challenges.

He noted that war heroes sacrificed their lives to safeguard the country and its territorial integrity and for the future of the people. President Sirisena said his government acknowledged the war heroes and their relatives for their sacrifices.

Also speaking here, Most Venerable Dr. Ittepane Dhammalankara Nayaka Thera called upon all to safeguard the country that was protected by war heroes with all their sacrifices. Reverent Father Piyal Janaka Fernando said war heroes safeguarded the country without giving consideration to racial or religious differences. Kurukkal K.B.K. Waideeshwara requested everyone to act without differences in order to give a real meaning for the sacrifices made by war heroes.
Maulavi Ashok M.M. Moheer Mulafer said that living in co-existence without any differences would be the best tribute that could be paid to war heroes. Among those present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardena and top defence and law enforcement officials.
