England faced a stunning defeat by Sri Lanka at the 27th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup at Leeds yesterday.
Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 232 for the loss of 9 wickets.
Angelo Mathews was 85-not out, whilst Awishka Fernando scored 49.
Chasing a target of 233, England were dismissed in the 47th over, at a score of 212.
Ben Stokes put in a dynamic effort to drive England to victory, however, as wickets fell when the other batsmen were on the pitch, his efforts were not complemented.
Stokes was 82-not out.
Bowlers of the Sri Lankan side lead by Lasith Malinga proved an exciting performance.
Lasith Malinga took 4 wickets, and Dhananjaya Silva took 3, whilst Isuru Udana took 2.
Lasith Malinga was declared the Man of the Match.
Over the past 20 years, England has never been able to defeat Sri Lanka, in a World Cup encounter.
