A national drug prevention week has been declared from the 1st of next month. It has been implemented from yesterday on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena in connection with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illegal Drug Trafficking which falls on Wednesday. Accordingly, special programs are scheduled to be implemented from tomorrow. The first day has been named as the school day. The main school ceremony was held at Terrance N. De Silva School under the patronage of National Dangerous Drugs Control Board.
Programs were conducted island-wide to educate on the danger of drugs at schools. Programs A programme took place to educate people at Wellampitiya- Sinhapura by distributing leaflets door-to-door on drug eradication and prevention. A pledge was given that all district secretariats to be without drug use. Programs are being implemented on compiling policies and regulations, implementation and raids, treatment and rehabilitation and prevention during the week. The main ceremony of the drug prevention week will be held on 1st of next month at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
