Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Poojith Jayasundera have been arrested by the CID.
They had been notified to appear before the CID to record statements today, pertaining to the Easter Sunder attacks. However, since the duo were suddenly hospitalized, the statements could not be recorded. Subsequently, CID officers visited the Cardiac Unit of the Colombo General Hospital and arrested Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, whilst IGP Poojith Jayasundera was arrested at the Narahenpita Police Hospital.
The Attorney General had yesterday once again instructed Acting IGP: C. D. Wickremarathne, to record statements from the Former Defence Secretary and the IGP who was sent on compulsory leave, and produce them before Court.
