Speaker Karu Jayasuriya says that it is the duty of all to contribute for the development of the county while protecting national, religious and political unity. It is sad to note that some people living today do not understand the value of independence that our national leaders donated to the present generation. The speaker made these comments while participating at the 28th commemoration of copral Hasalaka Gamini Kularathna held in Colombo today. Many war heroes sacrificed their lives to achieve the aim of free and peaceful country. The speaker also said that security forces were able to control the situation arise following the Easter Sunday Attacks by few extremists.
Acting Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardhana said that the government has acted to consolidate the security in the country. Armed forces, police and the intelligence unit are kept in alert. The government is always committed to protect the people. The minister also requested the public to take action to inform the security forces the information they received. The group of Saharan who planned the Easter Sunday Attacks has been destroyed and others connected to the carnage have been arrested. He also said that certain groups try to mislead the public through false propaganda for political gains. The minister requested the public not to believe there false propaganda.
The president and the prime minister had sent massages to the commemoration.
