The Prime Minister’s office clarifies no provisions harmful to the country have been included in the Millennium challenge cooperation agreement

The Prime Minister’s office says that no proposal or condition has been included to effect to selling or transferring land to foreigners in the Millennium challenge cooperation agreement. The Land minister has acted to include the amendments recommend by the President to the Land Bill during the committee stage of the debate. The Prime Minister’s office further says that the President’s approval has been granted for that move. The Prime Minister’s office further says that MP Dayasiri Jayasekera has stated at a recent news conference that this Bill has been presented in parliament without proper approval. It is a statement aim at misleading the general public. The Millennium challenge cooperation agreement is an agreement between Sri Lanka and the United States of America for granting assistance to Sri Lanka. The United States of America will provide several grants for projects proposed by Sri Lanka.
