President Maithripala Sirisena says that an abolition of the death penalty will be a victory for drug traffickers and other criminals. He vows that he will never allow such elements to destroy the future of the country’s children. The President was speaking at a ceremony in Walawa where land ownership deeds were distributed to 5,000 settlers in this Mahaweli Zone. The event saw four religious places also receiving land ownership deeds under the programme on a presidential initiative to ensure that every Sri Lankan owns a house and a land.
