The president said that the elements who attempt to abolish capital punishment are indirectly supporting terrorism and crime

President Maithripala Sirisena says he vehemently condemns any person who disgraces Maha Sangha People should deplore such persons disregarding their social, political or economical status. The president made these comments participating in a religious ceremony held in Palenda Raja Maha viharaya in Baduraliya yesterday.

The new shrine room and the library was declared open by the president at this ceremony. The president further said that some politicians are attempting to bring a motion to parliament to abolish the capital punishment. The terrorist who are responsible for killing, about 300 thousand innocent people on the Easter Sunday attacks, should be strictly punished with the death penalty. The persons who attempt to eliminate the capital punishment can be branded as supporters of terrorism. The culprits who are responsible for culpable homicide, terrorism, and conspiring against the government should be executed with the death sentence. The culprits responsible for the bond scam have been apprehended. The president has held talks with the Singaporean Prime Minister to bring back the main culprit Arjun Mahendran to Sri Lanka. The president further said that death penalty should be activated in the country to purify the society by eliminating wrong doers.
