Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara says that the people affected by recent natural disasters will be paid compensation through an insurance cover introduced by the government. During a media briefing today at the Ministry of Disaster Management, the Minister said that 250,000 rupees will be paid as compensation for a death and compensation would also be paid for damaged properties. Nine people have died and 19 have been injured in the disaster. 25 houses have been completely damaged and another 3,169 houses have been partially damaged. 195 persons have been relocated to safer places.
Meanwhile, State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi said that a security guide has been issued to the fishing community today. It has been issued taking into consideration the inclement weather forecast until Wednesday. Director Operations of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department Kalyani Hewapathirana said that the fisheries boats kept in Maldives will return to Sri Lanka in due course.
