The result of the British Conservative Party leadership contest has been announced, with Boris Johnson the winner.
In the ballot of the Conservative Party members, Boris Johnson secured 92,153 votes, whilst Jeremy Hunt obtained 46,656 votes.
Johnson has promised that he would deliver Brexit, unite the country, and defeat the Opposition. Outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated Mr Johnson, promising her “full support from the back benches”.
Theresa May – who is standing down after a revolt by Conservative MPs over her Brexit policy – will officially tender her resignation to the Queen tomorrow afternoon (24th July).
Her successor will take office shortly afterwards, following an audience at Buckingham Palace.
