A debate is being held in parliament today with regard to extending the emergency regulations by another one month. Opening the debate Deputy Minister Karunarathna Paranawithana said the government does not expect to rule the country under the emergency regulations. However, the extremist terrorist groups have been banned under this regulation. Many protective measures have been taken with regard to the national security. The deputy minister also emphasized the importance of adopting a common criminal law in the country.
Addressing the house Minister Lakshman Kiriella said a special security plan is implemented during the Kandy Esala Perahara Procession. The land relating to the controversial Batticaloa campus has been allocated in 2013. Meanwhile, the cabinet has approved to provide additional 50 rupees allowance to the estate employees, he added. Addressing the parliament, MP Dinesh Gunawardena said that the government failed to review the stalled economy after the Easter Sunday bomb attack. The parliamentarian also stated that the government also failed to fulfill the promises given to tourism sector.
