President Maithripala Sirisena says there are connections of some ministers of the present government to the environmental destruction of Muthurajawela in the Gampaha district. He pointed out this huge environmental destruction should be prevented for the future of the country and the people. The President expressed these views at the Gampaha district conclusion ceremony of the “Stand together Programme” at Divulapitiya Public Grounds. The President said that the Attorney General informed him that the motion introduced in parliament as a private members motion to abolish the death penalty, was not legal.
The “Stand together for the country Programme” which commenced on the 29th of last month in the Gampaha district, implemented successfully in 13 divisional secretariat areas for 6 days. More than 325 thousand people have received benefits form the programme. More 4000 programmes were implemented and the government has spent 123 million rupees.
