The Disaster Management Centre says initial compensation payments for the damage properties due to recent rains and strong winds are now being made. Director of the centre Chaminda Pathiraja said that, more than 19 million rupees has been given to district secretaries to make the payments. 1939 houses in 17 districts have been damage due to implement weather.

Meanwhile 15 houses in Vavuniya, 11 houses in Trincomalee and two houses in Eravur in Batticaloa have been partially damaged due to the prevailing winds. The Disaster Management Centers of the respective districts said that steps will be taken to provide them with an initial payment of Ten Thousand Rupees.
