Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the government has been able to rebuild the destroyed country amidst challenges. According to him, all citizens have been assured of a strong future. He says the time has come to decide if Sri Lanka becomes a developed country or falls back to an era of destruction. The Premier was addressing a ceremony in Kurunegala today where farmers were given compensation for crop damage. He questioned if the Rajapaksas would be able to develop the country with new guises, after failing to do so during ten years in power.
Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said on the occasion that the country was reaping benefits of the nation building efforts of Prime Minister Wickremesinghe. He warned that certain elements were trying to grab power by inciting racism and religious extremism. Also addressing the event, Minister P. Harrison said the government has taken many measures to strengthen the economy of the farming community. He added that the price of paddy would be raised by five rupees a kilo from the next Yala season.
