The first housing scheme constructed in Ranala-Jalthara for middle income earners was declared open by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, today.
A joint initiative by the government and the private sector, it has been named ‘Green Valley Residencies’.
The cost involved has been 1.6 billion rupees, while the complex spreads across 8 acres of land and comprises 352 housing units.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Premier said, it is disappointing to see certain individuals throwing obstacles in the way, when projects are implemented for the alleviation of poverty.
The Premier highly appreciated the programmes launched by Minister Sajith Premadasa, for the upliftment of the living standards of poverty stricken communities.
Also speaking at the event, Minister Sajith Premadasa noted, the government launched a systematic programme to address the housing issue faced by the country, by effectively utilizing the limited land factor.
He highlighted the objective to make the target of ‘Shelter For All By 2025’, a reality.
