The Brazilian government has said, it will reject aid from G-7 countries, which has been offered to help tackle fires in the Amazon rainforest.

French President Emmanuel Macron – who hosted the G7 Summit that ended yesterday – said, 22 million dollars would be granted.

Brazilian officials gave no reason for turning down the money, but Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has accused France of treating Brazil like a colony.

However, Mr Bolsonaro had previously said, his government lacked the resources to fight the record number of fires in the Amazon.

Critics have accused him of making de-forestation worse in the Amazon, through anti-environmental rhetoric.
